Despite their relatively small numbers, Bohras all over the United States play important roles in their local societies. With a particular focus on hard work and education, many American Dawoodi Bohras are doctors, IT professionals, teachers, academics, civil servants, and successful entrepreneurs. They are proud of the contributions they make to American society and continue to help build the diverse fabric that underpins the nation’s rich democratic values. The leader of the community, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, serves as the spiritual and temporal guide of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohras community. He primarily resides in India and encourages all his followers to remain faithful, contributing citizens of the countries in which they reside. The Dawoodi Bohras are Muslims hailing mainly from the Indian subcontinent. They also have large numbers in Pakistan, Yemen, East Africa and the Middle East, as well as growing populations in Europe, North America, South East Asia and Australia. A set of centuries-old principles unite Dawoodi Bohras: an unwavering commitment to their faith; a belief in the value of society, education, hard work and women empowerment; engagement with other faiths; physical health; and a responsibility to care for the environment and all creatures that dwell within it.
